Noh Soon-myung Elected Chairman of the Kukkiwon Board of Directors

The 10th Special Board Meeting of 2025 Held on Wednesday, December 10, at 10:00 a.m. in the Kukkiwon Lecture Hall

Noh Soon-myung, a member of the Kukkiwon board of directors, has been elected chairman of the board.

Kukkiwon convened the 10th special board meeting of 2025 at 10:00 a.m. on December 10 in the lecture hall, with 18 out of 19 incumbent directors attending, and elected Director Noh Soon-myung as chairman of the board.

Chairman-elect Noh is a former Taekwondo athlete who has won the Korean National Sports Festival five times and holds a 9th-dan. He has served as the executive director, senior vice president, and president of the Incheon Taekwondo Association.

He also contributed to the development of sports beyond Taekwondo through his service as secretary general and senior vice president of the Incheon Sports Council, and dedicated himself to the growth of Kukkiwon while serving as administrative vice president of Kukkiwon.

Upon confirmation of his election, Chairman-elect Noh said, “Drawing lessons from the path I have walked throughout my Taekwondo life, I will make sure the new executive leadership of Kukkiwon works harmoniously through active communication. I will humbly pay attention to the opinions of fellow directors and continuously strive to make sure the board operates properly.”

In accordance with the Kukkiwon Articles of Incorporation, the chairman is elected from among the incumbent directors by a majority vote of the full board and assumes office upon approval by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The chairman’s term of office is three years.

To elect the chairman, Kukkiwon accepted candidacies from directors for six days starting on December 3, during which Directors Noh Soon-myung and Song Jae-seung submitted their applications.

During the meeting, the board also revised relevant articles and regulations to reflect the expansion of the scope of ex officio directors, recommendations from the Gangnam District Election Commission in compliance with the Act on Elections Entrusted by Public Organizations and corrective measures from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s administrative audit.

In particular, to enhance operational efficiency under the leadership of Kukkiwon President Yun Ung-suk, who took office in September, the board approved revisions to the organizational regulations, including an organizational restructuring.

In addition, the board set issuance fees for mobile poom and dan certificates, enabling their use alongside the existing paper and plastic certificates previously issued by Kukkiwon.
