Kukkiwon Amends Regulations for President Election Administration and Director　Recommendation Committee

Improved Fairness in Online Elections, Established Evaluation Table for Director Candidates … 12 Directors’ Consecutive Term Confirmed

Kukkiwon amended regulations for presidential election and appointing directors.

At 10AM, August 18 (Thu), Kukkiwon held the “2022 5th Special Directors Meeting” at Kukkiwon’s lecture hall and amended regulations for president election administration and the Director Recommendation Committee.

In order to ensure the integrity of elections, the regulation for presidential election was amended to prohibit the list of voters distributed to candidates during the candidate registration period from being transferred or lend to individuals other than the candidates or from being used for purposes other than election purposes.

The neutrality obligation which had been applied only to employees of Kukkiwon will also be applied to individuals directly related to or affiliated to Kukkiwon.

From now on, candidates will be asked to submit a letter of self-introduction and a presentation video after the candidate registration period so the candidates’ presentation videos which were only accessible on the day of the election will be accessible for up to 10 days on the Kukkiwon website.

The amended regulation also included detailed guidelines on the installation and operation of candidates’ campaign offices as well as on compensations for the campaign staff.

Kukkiwon also improved efficiency and integrity of the director candidate evaluation process by including an evaluation table for applicants which shows the evaluation criteria and points, in the amended regulation for the Director Recommendation Committee.

The Director Recommendation Committee will be evaluating the applicants on their △expertise, △job suitability, △understanding of Kukkiwon, △contribution and △moral character.

Also, in order to ensure newly appointed directors’ term of office, the article that prescribed that the term of office a successor shall expire on the same day as the predecessor, has been removed.

From now on, newly appointed directors will start their 3-year term on the day they’ve been appointed by the board of directors.

The decision to amend Kukkiwon’s articles of association requires a favorable two-thirds vote of the incumbent directors and becomes effective after the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s approval.

The consecutive term of the 12 directors (Gap-gil Jeon, Moo-cheon Kim, Cheon-hae Park, Oh-nam Yoon, Suk-gyeong Lee, Hyung-taek Lee, Mi-hwa Lim, Sang-hyuk Cha, Hye-jin Han, Slavi Binev) whose term of office expires on October 16 has been decided with a favorable majority vote of the incumbent directors in a voting for their consecutive term.

Kukkiwon will be asking the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for his approval on the articles of association amended in the special director’s meeting.
