Poom/Dan Promotion Test
The Dan/Poom Promotion Test is a process that measures a trainee's commitment in personal growth in Taekwondo. After 10 Gwans' integration in 1978, Kukkiwon had fomulated a system and has turned out Poom/Dan Holders in great numbers around 9 millions and has come up to fame as the World Taekwondo Headquarters.
It classifies the system of Taekwondo Poom/Dan Promotion Test into Poom and Dan.
Trainees under 15 must get Poom from 1 Poom to 4 Poom and trainees over 15 might get Dan from 1 Dan to 9 Dan.
Certificates issued by Kukkiwon is considered by all practitioners around the world in high estimation, and you must hold it to participate in international events or championships supervised by WTF.
The World Taekwondo Academy was founded in 1983. It has been nurturing physically, mentally and socially excellent Taekwondo leaders in order to spread the traditional Taekwondo spirit and skill.
The academy trains masters in leadership virtues and characters, provides the education and training programs classified for all different curriculums such as the Taekwondo instructor courses;
1st, 2nd, 3rd instructor courses, foreign instructor course, referee course, referee course for Taekwondo Poomsae, and international referee course for World Taekwondo Hanmadang to produce quality leaders in society.
Through its advanced education and training curriculums, the academy commits to increase the qualities of its leaders who will contribute to the development of Taekwondo in their countries and communities. Educated masters more than 50,000 strive for training of Juniors and show their paces as national and social leaders by putting Taekwondo sprit in practice.
In April, 2006, Kukkiwon established the Research Institute of Taekwondo for the purpose of organizing academic Taekwondo research and presenting a guide to the growth of Taekwondo. The institute has been playing a major role in the academic research of the martial art, leading the study of Taekwondo history and developing new Taekwondo techniques.
Since its establishment, the institute has performed successful projects such as developing new Taekwondo techniques, establishing Taekwondo terms and history and conducting seminars.
Through such efforts, the institute has provided the vision and guide that shall pave the future the martial art. The institute is conducting further academic research in the art, as well as developing curriculums in leadership and establishing a scheme to activate the gym.
To enhance the status of Taekwondo further, which is now considered not only as a martial art but also as a world cultural asset of Korea, the institute shall continue to devote itself as the leading body which conducts scientific and organized academic research on the martial art form.
Upbringing Business for Demonstration Team
Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team established in 1974 has been touring more than 100 countries all over the world and has been giving Taekwondo Demonstration. They has been conducting demonstration tours for globalization of Taekwondo as a civil diplomatic corps.
They are also touring around 10 countries every year in order to introduce Korean culture and spread Taekwondo in world wide.
Demo Performances in internal and external are diplomatic activities in itself and it helps to heighten Taekwondo and Korea value.
In addition, the team presents a new model of Taekwondo demonstration that sticks to the traditional ways.
It also contributes to the tourism industry by planning and performing regular demonstrations for international tourists visiting Korea.
By leading and creating Taekwondo demonstration culture, the team devotes to spreading the Taekwondo culture and promoting Korean culture worldwide, and thus contributes to increasing the cultural competitiveness of Korea, the home to Taekwondo.

Taekwondo Demonstration Performance & Experience Program
In cooperation with the city of Seoul, Kukkiwon has been holding regular Taekwondo demonstrations for international tourists visiting Korea sing 2007. The performance is held from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm every Wednesday and Saturday from March to October at Hanok village, Namsan.
Kukkiwon considered this as a new opportunity in promoting Taekwondo as a cultural and tourism resources such as the regular Taekwondo demonstrations.
For the last five years, more than 10 million foreign tourists have watched the performance which proves that the regular Taekwondo demonstrations play a major role bringing tourists and visitors to Korea. The performance introduces and spreads the superiority of the Korean culture and raises the international image of Taekwondo, thereby increasing the number of its practitioners.
And as a part of Korean tourism, Kukkiwon operates the Taekwondo Experience Program to allow tourists and foreign visitors to experience Taekwondo.
The program is held three times a day every Wednesday and Saturday to draw the interest and responses of foreign tourists to the basic Taekwondo techniques such as self-defense and breaking. Through this event, Kukkiwon can heighten the people's interest in Taekwondo and promise tourists happy Taekwondo memories and experiences, thereby expanding and introducing the Korean traditional culture of Taekwondo worldwide. Taekwondo Friendship Training Program
Since 2009, through the Taekwondo Friendship Training Program, Kukkiwon has invited a number of potential Taekwondo leaders from Asia, Africa, and East Europe for the purpose of bringing up talented Taekwondo leaders that can put together and encourage cooperation among several practitioners from all around the world, and revitalize Taekwondo as a global sport.
Through this program, Kukkiwon has been able to promote friendship with the invited countries, spread the Taekwondo culture, establish partnerships, enhance pride of the home of Taekwondo and its superior Taekwondo culture, and performed cultural diplomatic roles.Every year, Taekwondo leaders are invited from underdevelopment countries. They're learning the Korean culture and training in Taekwondo skills and techniques for 6 months in support of Kukkiwon.
They are committed as a partner who promotes the Korean culture and Taekwondo in their home countries based on the friendships that have been established for six months during their training and Korean cultural experience.

World Taekwondo Hanmadang & Demonstration Contest
The World Taekwondo Hanmadang, which shows the essentials of the martial art such as breaking, self-defense and Poomsae, is a contest held by Kukkiwon every year.
In 1992, the World Taekwondo Hanmadang opened its first contest that brought together Taekwondo practitioners from all over the world. It was the perfect venue to present genuine martial arts spirit and highlight the skills and techniques of Taekwondo.
Since then, it has been recognized as the leading international competition on the various Taekwondo techniques. It is global citizens' proudest possession and highly valued Taekwondo tradition worldwide. The World Taekwondo Hanmadang introduces the cultural superiority of Taekwondo and promotes the martial art as a valuable Korean culture.
The World Taekwondo Hanmadang is a festival for Taekwondo practitioners from around the world who may not be professional players but amateurs enjoying Taekwondo. Taekwondo is flourishing as a cultural and tourism resource, contributing to the Korean wave which brings people from around the world to visit Korea and Kukkiwon by this event.
Taekwondo trainees more than 5,000 from about 50 countries participate in this event every year. They shows their varied superior Taekwondo skills, such as breaking, self defense and Taekwon Aerobics. The World Taekwondo Hanmadang is considered as the world's top Taekwondo festival today.
And Kukkiwon has been holding the World Taekwondo Demonstration Contests for the purpose of fostering and supporting demonstration performances as well as creating new demonstration skills and performance paradigms for the purpose of tourism.
