The Future of Taekwondo begins at the Research Institue of Taekwondo In March 2006, Kukkiwon established the Research Institute of Taekwondo for the purpose of organizing academic Taekwondo research of the martial art, leading the study of Taekwondo history and developing new Taekwondo techniques.
Led by the head manager The institute is composed of about 30 researchers who are top Taekwondo experts and Taekwondo-related researchers in Korea. Since its establishment, the institute has performed successful projects such as developing new Taekwondo techniques, establishing Taekwondo terms and history and conducting seminars.
Through hard efforts, the institue has provided
The vision and guide that shall pave the future the martial art. The institute is committed to conducted further academic research in the art, as well as developing curriculums in leadership and establishing a scheme to activate the gym.
To further enhance the status of Taekwondo, which is now considered not only as a martial art but also as a world cultural asset of Korea, the institute shall continue to devote itself as the leading body that conducts scientific and organized academic research on the martial art form.
Taekwondo Journal of Kukkiwon Taekwondo Journal of Kukkiwon published to create and promote the value of Taekwondo by developing a systematic structure for Taekwondo, and promote the science and systematization of Taekwondo skills. Until now, academic papers on Taekwondo have not received fair assessment and evaluation due to the absence of a journal for Taekwondo in particular.
With publication of such a journal however, we plan to enhance the research function inherent in Taekwondo and expand the symbolization of Kukkiwon by promoting the scholastic development of Taekwondo and increase the depth of the study.
We expect to have the depth, scalability, efficiency and the representative character of research instead of just project-type tasks, by allowing many researchers to conduct research, publish results and exchange their opinions through the Taekwondo Journal of Kukkiwon.
To give benefit when researchers contribute to the journal, we are considering many options such as a measure that when a paper is published, it could be acknowledged as a research paper during graduate examinations in connection with different university's Taekwondo majors or a measure that a paper of high quality could be submitted as a thesis.
In addition, we plan to enhance the overall level of the journal by strengthening the selection requirements of the editorial committees such as research results and an influence on academia, etc. establishing the transparency and strictness of the evaluation system and attempting to increase the quality of the paper.
Taekwondo Journal of Kukkiwon, which will be published in both Korean and English, will exert a great effort in selecting renowned foreign scholars as editorial committee members and judges in order to develop into an international journal, and will do the best to foster Taekwondo as global knowledge.
We anticipate the interests of, and expect a lot from, Taekwondo Journal of Kukkiwon.
