Kukkiwon has organized the ¡®Kukkiwon 2nd Establishment TF Promotion Team (hereinafter referred to as the Promotion Team)¡¯ to begin its reform.
The Promotion Team has been organized to provide consultation on major policy decisions and their implementation to respond preemptively to the rapidly changing environment in the post-COVID-19 era and perform the role of Kukkiwon in a new world.
On Thursday, February 28, shortly after his election in the by-election, Kukkiwon President Lee Dongsup announced his determination to reform Kukkiwon including organizing a World General Assembly that encompasses Taekwondo across the world and Saving Taekwondo dojang.
The Promotion Team is a temporary permanent organization in charge of presenting Kukkiwon¡¯s future growth strategies and visions.
The organization of the Team signifies creating a blueprint for Kukkiwon, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022.
The Team also plans to come up with specific measures to reinforce Kukkiwon¡¯s global status including establishing branches that will act as international organizations across the world and plan to overhaul Articles of Association and regulations accordingly.
Thus, the Promotion Team will establish strategies for organizing a Kukkiwon World General Assembly and plan to design and propose a roadmap on how to operate the Assembly throughout each step.
The Team also plans to seek support measures for international and domestic Taekwondo dojangs faced by crises due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Promotion Team plans to maximize synergy effects by cooperating with Taekwondo-related organizations including the World Taekwondo (WT) and Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) according to each issue.
On Thursday, February 18, Kukkiwon President Lee Dongsup appointed Ahn Yong Kyu, President of Korea National Sport University as the head of the Promotion Team.
In addition, the Promotion Team has appointed Choe Man-sik, former deputy director-general of World Taekwondo (WT) and Kim Jung-heon, director-general of World Taekwondo Asia, as joint heads, while including members from both inside and outside of Kukkiwon.
For the next 100 days, the Promotion Team will hold meetings every week to produce results.
¡°We have organized this Promotion Team to begin reforming Kukkiwon in earnest at this critical moment when we are approaching the 50th anniversary of Kukkiwon,¡± said Kukkiwon President Lee Dongsup. ¡°We must transform Kukkiwon into a global organization by establishing a number of plans and build a strong foundation to take the next step. The reform of Kukkiwon is in your hands, and I will also do my best for this cause.¡±
