Kukkiwon (President Choi Young-Ryul) has appointed 12 new directors.

 

Kukkiwon held the 9th Temporary Board of Directors of 2019 in Lecture Room 2 of Kukkiwon on October 17 (Thu) at 10:30 am, with all 9 incumbent directors present and President Choi Young-Ryul serving as the chair for the board, and appointed 12 new directors.

 

The new directors, numbering 12 in total, are (listed according to the Korean alphabet) Kim Mu-Cheon (born 1957, former director and secretary general of the Korea Taekwondo Association), Kim Ji-Suk (born 1967, president of the Korea Women Taekwondo Federation), Park Chun-Jae (born 1960, professor at George Mason University in the US), Son Cheon-Taek (born 1953, honorary professor at Incheon National Universitys Department of Physical Education, former director of Taekwondo Research Institute of Kukkiwon), Yun O-Nam (born 1960, vice-president of Korea TAEKWONDO Association for the Disabled, professor of Chosun Universitys College of Physical Education), Lee Suk-Gyeong (born 1972, professor at Jeonju University), Im Mi-Hwa (born 1974, director of Korea Women Taekwondo Federation, head of a Taekwondo dojang), Im Jong-Nam (born 1961, administrative vice-president of Gyeonggi-Do Taekwondo Association, former director of Korea Taekwondo Association), Jeon Kab-Kil (born 1957, member of the 16thNationalAssembly, former mayor of Gwangju-si Gwangsan-gu), Ji Byeong-Yun (born 1957, professor at Baekseok Universitys, 9th Dan, martial arts instructor for the Korean National Police Agency), Cha Sang-Hyeok (born 1959, operates a Taekwondo dojang in the US), and Slavi Binev (born 1965, vice president of European Taekwondo Union, president of Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation).

Kukkiwon formed a Director Recommendation Committee made up of 10 members in the 7th Temporary Board of Directors held this past August 8 (Thu).

 

The Kukkiwon Director Recommendation Committee held an open recruitment of candidates for Kukkiwon directors for 15 days from August 27 (Tue) to September 10 (Tue), received applications, and evaluated the qualifications of the director candidates before voting 30 candidates, which was 2 times the number of new directors set by the Chairman of the Board of Kukkiwon (acting), and recommending them to the Board of Directors.

 

After Chairman Jang Yong-Gap of the Kukkiwon Director Recommendation Committee delivered his report on the progress of the committees activities, the Board of Directors held a secret vote on the 30 candidates recommended by the committee in order to bring the number of incumbent directors to between 20 and 30 in accordance with the Articles of Association.

 

Voting was held a total of 5 times to this day, and 12 new directors were appointed to the existing 9 members, bringing the number of incumbent directors to 21.

 

The term of a Kukkiwon executive is 3 years, and executives may be reappointed once. The term for the directors appointed on this day follows the regulations in Article 12 Paragraph 1 of the Articles of Association, which states that the terms of directors appointed after the first appointed directors shall be the same as that of the first appointed directors.
