Kukkiwon (President Choi Young-Ryul) has successfully completed Global Taekwondo Master Training Program, which was carried out by selecting Taekwondo masters from developing countries.

The 2019 Global Taekwondo Master Training Program organized by the World Taekwondo Academy (WTA), was concluded with the completion ceremony held at Kukkiwon Gymnasium at 11:00 AM on Oct. 16 (Wed).

The Education Program for Developing Countries was implemented for the purpose of revitalizing the distribution of Taekwondo through the Kukkiwon Dan Promotion and completion of education by developing the theoretical and practical Taekwondo skills of Taekwondo masters in developing countries.

Furthermore, the program also aims to build an international sports human network through mutual cultural exchanges by providing not only Taekwondo but Korean culture as well.

The countries were selected through document review and telephone interview, and the countries that made the final selection are as follows: 16 countries from Asia (Cambodia, Uzbekistan, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Mongolia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkmenistan, and Vietnam); 4 countries from Pan America (Bolivia, Brazil, Honduras, and Mexico); 5 countries from Europe (Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Serbia, and Ukraine); and 9 countries from Africa (Algeria, Botswana, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Republic of South Africa, Kingdom of Eswatini, and Tunisia). The Education Program for Developing Countries was implemented for about 4 weeks for 57 trainees from the aforementioned 34 countries.

This education program was comprised of the following: Taekwondo Theory (Theory on Taekwondo Instruction, Theory on Taekwondo Education, Theory on Taekwondo Spirit, Taekwondo Competition Rules, and Taekwondo and Hangeul); Practical Taekwondo (Taekwondo Terms and Basic Movements, Poomsae for Geup and Dan Holders, Gyeorugi, Taekwondo Demonstrations, and Taekwondo Self Defense); and Special Lecture (Meeting with Taekwondo Grandmaster).

In addition to the education, the trainees were given the opportunity to interact with Korean culture through a tour of Hanok Village, exploration of Gyeongju culture, and Hanbok experiences.

Kukkiwon President Choi Young-Ryul, at the completion ceremony, urged, “All of you who have received a certificate today, please take pride in yourselves and carry a sense of duty as a member of the Taekwondo family and exert yourselves to developing and spreading the base of Taekwondo in your own countries.”
