Kuklkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team Advances to the 3rd Round of USs The Worlds Best

Overcomes Spains Male Fusion Flamenco Team Los Vivancos in the 2nd Round (Battle Round)

Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team (hereinafter referred to as the Demonstration Team) advanced to the 3rd round of The Worlds Best, a TV program by the USs CBS.

The Demonstration Team finalized their advance into the 3rd Round (Championship Round) by besting Spains Male Fusion Flamenco Team Los Vivancos in the 2nd Round (Battle Round) of The Worlds Best broadcast on February 27 (hereinafter local time).

The 24 teams that passed the 1st Round (Auditions) were placed into 12 groups in the 2nd Round, with each team competing to make it out of their respective group. The Demonstration Team defeated their opponent, Los Vivancos (59 points), by scoring 83 points from the panelists.

In the 2nd Round, the Demonstration Team captivated the panelists by putting on a colorful performance composed of basic movements, technical Gyeokpa, Wiryeok Gyeokpa (power break), and Gyeorugi (sparring).

The panelists were in awe whenever the members of the Demonstration Team completely broke the breaking target with spectacular techniques such as the 540 Dwi-huryeo-chagi.

In particular, audiences burst into cheers when the members of the Demonstration Team stacked up a tower to break pine boards held up 3m in the air with Nopi-twieo-gyeokpa (high jumping break) and Garo-dora-gyeokpa (vertical turn break).

After the Demonstration Teams performance was finished, Drew Barrymore, one of the US expert judges, exclaimed, I am excited once again. The first time (1st Round; The Auditions) was incredible. The second time (2nd Round; Battle Round) was even better. You are Bruce Lee meets Fred Astaire. It is the best two genres, two masters Ive ever seen come together. You are power and grace like Ive never seen.

Faith Hill, a world-renowned country singer, went up to the stage to follow the Junbi-jase (Wen-gyeorumsae, left sparring posture) and Gihap (yell) of the Demonstration Team to the claps and cheers of the audience.

After its first broadcast on February 3, The Worlds Best was broadcast a total of 5 times in February including on the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. The 1st Round and 2nd Round of the competition between the performance teams invited from numerous countries around the world were completed to finalize the teams that would advance into the 3rd Round.

Meanwhile, the Demonstration Team received the highest score (99 out of 100) from the panelists in the 1st Round to advance into the 2nd Round.

The Worlds Best is a TV program composed of 10 episodes in which famous performance teams from numerous countries worldwide compete with each other to decide the winner. The winning team will receive a reward of USD 1 million (about KRW 1.12 billion).

Currently, half of the 10 total episodes publicly announced by the CBS have been broadcast. Amidst the outpour of attention being paid to how much further the Demonstration Team will advance, the 3rd Round (Championship Round) will be broadcast starting March 6.
