The Taekwondo Research Institute of Kukkiwon (Director Yi Bong, hereinafter referred to as ¡°Institute¡°) held an academic seminar to seek measures to improve exchanges and cooperation in Taekwondo between North and South Korea.
The academic seminar held at the Adonis Hall on the 1st floor of Hotel Samjung at 2:00pm on August 25 (Fri), with the main subject of ¡°Taekwondo, a Stepping Stone between North and South Korea¡±, saw more than 200 participants, including Taekwondo researchers, students in the Taekwondo-related fields, and active Taekwondo Masters.
The Institute is holding an academic seminar every year, with major issues related to Taekwondo as the subject, in order to shed a light on the academic values of Taekwondo.
Last June, the worldwide attention was focused on Korea as the North Korean ITF Taekwondo Demonstration Team visited South Korea.
At that time, all sorts of experts insisted that continuous cooperation measures should be discussed and put into practice, so that Taekwondo would contribute to world peace through the exchanges between North and South Korea, rather than just showing interest in the symbolism behind the visit by the North Korean demonstration team.
Therefore, the felt that various practical measures were needed to make the exchanges and cooperations in Taekwondo between North and South Korea in the future more concrete, as well as to commemorate North Korean ITF Taekwondo Demonstration Team¡¯s first visit to Kukkiwon, and planned the academic seminar accordingly.
In the academic seminar, Dr. O In-ho (Gachon University) hosted the event as the MC, and presentations were made on subjects such as ¡â Contemplation on the Groundwork including Legal Systems for the Taekwondo Exchanges between North and South Korea (Park Yeong-ok, President of Korea Institute of Sport Science), ¡â The Roles of Taekwondo Organizations in the Relationship between North and South Korea (Professor Seo Jin-gyo, Gachon University School of Lifelong Education), and ¡â Measures for Cooperation on the Exchanges and Cultural Content of Taekwondo in North and South Korea (Dr. Hong Seong-bo, University of North Korean Studies).
In the comprehensive discussion, Professor Kim Dong-Sun of Kyonggi University, Mr. Kim Hak-su, former chief editor of Sports Today (received PhD from Korea National Sport University), Principal Researcher Seong Mun-jeong of Korea Institute of Sport Science, Professor Im Shinja of Kyung Hee University, and Researcher Jo Hyeon-ju of Korea Institute of Sport Science participated to engage in discussion.
The academic seminar was hosted by Kukkiwon, organized by the Taekwondo Research Institute of Kukkiwon, and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), and the Ministry of Unification.
