Kukkiwon (President OH Hyundeuk) has signed MOU with Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation (BTF) on the construction of Taekwondo center, and promised to actively cooperate on that matter.

In the MOU Signing Ceremony held at the Hotel Marinela located in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria at 10:00 am on April 13th (Thu), President OH Hyundeuk of Kukkiwon, President Slavi Binev of Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation (BTF), Bulgarian Minister Daniela Dasheva of Youth and Sport, Ambassador Shin Boonam of the Embassy of Korea in Bulgaria, and many others participated.

Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation (BTF) has been trying to construct Taekwondo stadium and research center at an eco-friendly area in Sofia with the funding by the EU, and it was essential that Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, participate in it.

In 2018, Bulgaria will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Thus, it is expected that they will become the center of sports exchange in Europe and through the construction of Taekwondo center, they will be developed as the Taekwondo hub in central Europe.

President OH Hyundeuk of Kukkiwon said, “Constructing Bulgarian Taekwondo center will be the catalyst to revitalize Taekwondo in Europe.”

If Taekwondo center is successfully constructed, it would contribute hugely in spreading and establishing Taekwondo in the 8 surrounding countries in Balkan Peninsula (Bulgaria, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Albania).

Furthermore, President OH Hyundeuk met with the mayor of Sofia, president of the National Sports Academy (NSA) of Bulgaria, and Ambassador of Korea to Bulgaria one after the other and exchanged opinions on developing Taekwondo, and tentatively agreed to proclaim November 25th as the Kukkiwon Day, which is the day that Bulgarian Ambassador Cup Taekwondo Contest will be held.
