|[ Etc ] Kukkiwon Conducts Maintenance Education for Masters Dispatched Overseas|
Kukkiwon (President OH Hyun Deuk) conducted ¡®2017 Kukkiwon Maintenance Education for the Masters Dispatched Overseas (hereinafter referred to as ¡°Maintenance Education¡±)¡¯.
Starting from the opening ceremony at Lecture Room No. 1 of Kukkiwon at 9:30 am on April 6th (Thu.), the maintenance education was held at the YBM Academy (located at Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do) for 8 days until the 13th (Thu.), with all 31 Kukkiwon Masters dispatched to 30 countries around the world in attendance.
Kukkiwon has implemented ¡®Taekwondo Masters Dispatch Project¡¯ with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) since 2009 to distribute Taekwondo to developing countries and strategic countries, and currently has sent Taekwondo Masters to 15 Asian countries (16 Masters), 1 European country (1 Master), 6 Pan American countries (6 Masters), and 8 African countries (8 Masters).
The dispatched Masters are playing the role of private diplomatic envoys by expanding cultural exchanges between the two countries, expanding the Korean Wave, enlarging the Taekwondo base, maintaining core sport at the Olympics, etc. through Taekwondo.
Therefore, as the activities of the dispatched Masters are directly linked to the distribution of Taekwondo, Kukkiwon has conducted maintenance education since 2013 to raise the qualifications and capabilities that dispatched Masters should have in the residing countries, and to seek efficient measures to revitalize Taekwondo.
The dispatched Masters received various types of training through the maintenance education, from systematic and standardized Taekwondo techniques (and instruction methods) and technical terminologies to administration, overseas safety service, overseas insurance, and character & emotions.
In particular, this maintenance education has incorporated new subjects of practical education on Taekwondo as self-defense and Taekwondo demonstrations in consideration of the actual reality of dispatched countries in which Taekwondo is being distributed mainly by the military.
In addition, the working level staffs in charge of Kukkiwon¡¯s international businesses and dispatched Masters had a meeting to exchange comments on distributing and revitalizing Taekwondo by continents and by countries, and it will be reflected in the future projects.
President OH Hyun Deuk, through his welcoming speech, said, ¡°I wish that this would be a valuable opportunity to rearm yourselves with the tremendous responsibilities of representing Kukkiwon, as well as intelligible nation outlook, sense of duty as a Taekwondo Master, and mental strength,¡± and added, ¡°Let¡¯s all give our best efforts with the hope that the hard work we put in together today will open up a bright future for Taekwondo.¡±
Meanwhile, Kukkiwon determined that they needed more active implementation of the projects to distribute Taekwondo, so they are planning to expand the number of dispatched countries to 40 countries during the year.
